Conservative priests across Nigeria and other African countries have reportedly ignored a landmark Vatican ruling allowing same-sex Union blessings in Catholic Church. Conservative Catholics have condemned the Vatican's declaration two weeks ago, which was approved by Pope Francis, that will allow blessings for same-sex couples, as long as they are not part of the regular Church rituals or liturgies. The pope has hit back against the criticism and what he called inflexible ideological positions that hinder the church from moving forward.
The Vatican on Monday approved blessings for same-sex couples, a hugely contested issue in the Catholic Church, as long as they are not in contexts related to civil unions or weddings.In a document approved by Pope Francis, the Vatican backed "the possibility of blessings for couples in irregular situations (including unmarried couples or divorcees) and for couples of the same sex".
