Australia's supermarket sector is one of the most concentrated in the world. A key recommendation from this inquiry is for the Australian government to amend the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 to create divestiture powers specific to the supermarket sector, where a supermarket has been found to have misused their market power.
Former ACCC chair professor Fels had also recommended such a power earlier this year in his report to the Australian Council of Trade Unions.
