While vitamin D supplementation was found to have effects in all groups of the large-scale study, the research suggested the effects were greater in women.
In the study, the researchers found that taking vitamin D was associated with living dementia-free for longer, and they also found 40 per cent fewer dementia diagnoses in the group who took supplements.
