happening there in houston. they're still looking for the suspect who they believe killed corporal galloway. he is survived by his daughter and by his sister. and as we talk about him, we have to remember what happened on friday with two new york city police officers who were conducting a domestic disturbance call. a 22-year-old police officer was killed. another one is still fighting for his life in the hospital right now. fred? >> seriously sad situation. nadia. we've got a little more on that situation in new york because this just in now. new york police officers are honoring one of their own with these images you're about to see now. hundreds lines the streets today as the body of officer jason rivera was transferred from the medical examiner to a funeral home. rivera was killed friday night in a shooting while responding to a domestic disturbance. his partner, officer will mura was also shot on friday and he remains in critical condition. the nypd says rivera and murrah are the fourth and fifth
this is a sea of crime that's been fed by many rivers. we have to dam each one of those rivers. we have to go after those laws that are not realistic on understanding what's happening on the ground. we have to stop the flow of guns. a manhunt is under way in texas for the man who gunned down april deputy constable. police say the deputy was killed while making a traffic stop sunday. witnesses say the man got out of his car and just started shooting. cnn's nadia romero has details. >> reporter: in the early morning hours of sunday morning, 47-year-old charlsz galloway, a 12-year veteran, a corporal, field training officer was conducting a traffic stop. witnesses say the man he pulled over got out of the car and immediately started shooting. police say he used an assault-type weapon and shot corporal galloway several times before he even had a chance to get out of his patrol car.
charles galloway was killed after apparent traffic stop and killer is still on the run. we are seeing this everywhere. i have good friends that are in fire departments in new jersey, i have friends that are cops and they need to know that leadership is behind them. the administration hasn't spoken out about the crime crisis enough. here in harris county our county judge hidalgo encourages our district court judges to continue to release offenders, violent offenders on multiple bonds. our district courts need addressing, our mayors need to start supporting our police departments and stop underfunding police departments. we have issues that are bound and we need to address them and our leaders today aren't doing so. mike: in new york city here is the new mayor, a former cop on crime in the big apple. >> we are going to go after the underlying reasons you are seeing crime in our city. this is a sea of crime that's being fed by many rivers and we have to dam each one of the rivers. we have to go after the laws that are not realistic and
down in the line of duty. what else do they know? >> reporter: and jim, it makes a lot of us think about back in 2016 when those police officers in dallas were killed by a sniper attack. here we have yet another incident happening, just after midnight. 47-year-old charles galloway, 12-year veteran, a corporal and a field training officer. that's really important here because he trained other officers. and so many people are impacted by his death. it was supposed to be a routine traffic stop. and witnesses say the suspect got out of his car and immediately started shooting at corporal galloway before he even had a chance to get out of his patrol car. witnesses and police say that they believe the suspect used an assault-type weapon. right now authorities say there was no known motive for the shooting. take a listen. >> he got out of his vehicle and immediately fired upon the deputy, multiple times, striking him, and then drove off.
