The Special Vigilance Judge in Phulbani on Wednesday sentenced the former Head Clerk (Retired), of the Harabhanga BEO office in Boudh district to three years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) in a bribery case.

For closing the power pilferage case against him, West Discom junior engineer Gaya Prasad Verma, who is posted at Daly College Zone, had sought a bribe of Rs 40,000 from Khan through his driver Ghiyasuddin.
Khan approached Lokayukta police and informed about the corrupt engineer. Lokayukta sleuths laid a trap to nab Verma red-handed. On suggestion of the sleuths, Khan called up Verma and agreed to pay Rs 40,000 to him in instalments.
According to information, complainant Rohit Jain, a resident of Dhar in his complaint to Lokayukta on August 16 claimed that he is a grain trader at Krishi Upaj Mandi in Dhar who purchases grain from the farmers.
