Boulder County owns or holds conservation easements on over 115,000 acres of land. These holdings are made possible by seven county sales tax and sale tax extensions that have been approved by the voters since 1993. There are three open-space sales tax measures in effect through 2029-2034, including one perpetual .05% tax for maintenance of open-space properties. Property tax revenues also contribute around $4 million annually for open-space acquisitions, with some additional amount going to operations, maintenance and trail construction.
