Harris County Pets animal shelter hosted a "pool paw-ty" to help the animals beat the heat and to advertise their animals to the community.
Several Houston-area animal shelters are participating in this year’s ‘Empty the Shelters’ event where more than 335 shelters nationwide have committed to fight overcrowding.
Harris County Pets announced it will temporarily suspend animal surrender and stray intakes from July 1 until Aug. 1 due to the influx of animals at its facilities, according to a June 26 news release from Harris County Public Health.
All adoptable animals at the center are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and have a one-year Harris County pet license.
Harris County Pets says its shelter is “significantly” over capacity, therefore all adoption fees for cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies are being waived for the time being.
