In brief: AMD has confirmed that a microarchitecture optimization inside Zen 3 CPUs can be exploited in a similar fashion to the Spectre vulnerabilities that plagued Intel CPUs a few generations ago. Disabling the optimization is possible, but will carry a performance penalty that AMD doesn’t believe is worth it for all but the most critical deployments of the processors.
In a recently published whitepaper, titled Security Analysis of AMD Predictive Store Forwarding, AMD describes the nature of the vulnerability and discusses the associated complications. In brief: AMD s Ryzen 5000 family wouldn t be complete without the launch of a few APUs for system builders, but the company has yet to make an official reveal. The leaks so far show these chips might be a good option for people who don t need a graphics card or as a stop-gap solution in case they simply can t find or afford the one in their wishlist.
After revealing the much-anticipated Ryzen 5000 series of desktop and laptop processors, AMD s next step is likely to unleash some Zen 3 APUs. These often come as lower-cost CPU alternatives with integrated graphics for system builders, OEMs, and people on a budget. At present they might even soothe some low-spec gamers hearts during an ongoing GPU drought that will likely extend into next year. ....

Intel reportedly refreshing the Tiger Lake-U and H35 series

The leaker @momomo us also spotted a Core i7-1195G7 on Puget Systems’ website. As per the processor’s specifications, the 4C/8T processor will feature a 2.9GHz base clock. The team at VideoCardz found another listing of a laptop featuring the i7-1195G7, detailing a bit more about the processor. As it seems, it will boost up to 4.8GHz, the same as the Core i7-1185G7.
The other Tiger Lake-U SKU found was the Core i7-1155G7. The listing shows that it will also be a 4C/8T processor, but with slightly lower clocks than the i7-1195G7. The base clock is set at 2.8GHz and the boost clock at 4.7GHz, which is exactly the same as the Core i7-1165G7. ....

The big picture: Since the release of Ryzen 5000, AMD has somewhat abandoned the market segment that had some of their best sellers. They still offer the Ryzen 5 3600, but users were expecting new models in this price range given the history with R5 1600, 2600 and 3600. Unfortunately this did not happen as the 5600X targets a higher price bracket and now it seems that Intel wants to win it back, offering (unofficial?) price reductions for 10th-gen models and introducing the Core i5-11400 with appealing price tag, especially for gamers.
We ve been reporting about sales of Intel 10th-gen CPUs, with the Core i5-10400F usually found for under $150. Now with the release of the i5-11400 at $184, it seems that Intel wants to saturate this market segment and steal away AMD s momentum, after having very attractive offerings around $200 for a few years no ....

Intel forgot to release graphics drivers for their 11th-gen Rocket Lake CPUs

What just happened? Somehow, inexplicably, Intel failed to publish drivers for Rocket Lake’s integrated graphics ahead of the processors’ launch last week. They haven’t provided an excuse yet, probably because there isn t any: by all accounts, Rocket Lake’s integrated graphics is a clone of old hardware and doesn’t need updated drivers – just certification.
Update (April 5): Intel has re-released its latest graphics drivers (27.20.100.9316) which will recognize and install normally in Rocket Lake desktop CPUs.
Intel’s graphics drivers are usually available on their downloads website, but if you search for the 11900K or its siblings, then all you get is the Performance Maximizer utility. If you download the Intel Graphics driver installer, it says it can t find a match for your hardware. That’s a bit annoying when you’re p ....
