The Colorado State Patrol last week announced a new program assisting victims of auto theft with funding to offset certain kinds of costs. The announcement comes as a study by the Simmrin Law Group finds that Colorado had the highest number of motor vehicle thefts per capita in the U.S. last year, based on data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Data Explorer. The data shows 45,883 counts of motor vehicle theft in 2022, or 786 thefts per 100,000 people.
