The Bulldogs (10-1) had won 9 games in a row and were scoring 33 points per game while only giving up 13 per game. This was their first 10-win season since 2018. The Cougars last played Mary Persons in 2020 and 2021 and won both games.
As the 2020 Christmas season has approached, I have to admit I have not been in the Christmas spirit. Due to the issues caused by COVID-19 and all that the pandemic has done to our beloved community, I just could not get into the cheery spirit this time of year brings.
Until Friday night.
Pierce County Bear fans all received an early Christmas present. Not only did the Bears advance to the state championship by defeating the Crisp County Cougars, but the thrilling way in which we won will be remembered for years to come.
The play I am going to try to describe has been dubbed by longtime play-by-play announcer for the Bearsâ John Dupont as âThe Miracle at Bearvilleâ.

Cougars hosting Cedar Grove.
Saints QB Austin Smith looking to pass, has all day and it’s Cortez Thomas who picks off the Saints and runs it one back for a touchdown.
That play happened just over a minute into the game.
