The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society has announced the discovery of the schooner-barge Atlanta, which sank during 1891 in Lake Superior.
The shipwreck group posted photos and video with the name of the ship clearly visible at a depth of more than 600 feet.
On May 4, 1891, the schooner-barge Atlanta was heading up Lake Superior with a load of coal. It went down in heavy gales. It hasn't been seen since, until now.
