Printers, print buyers and paper merchants are in despair after UPM announced that strike action at its Finnish mills could be extended for a third time and by a further three weeks – until 12 March.
Finat has warned that the continued union strike “in some Nordic paper mills” is posing severe lead time problems for European label converters.
Sales at UPM were up 14% to nearly €10bn (£8.33bn) last year in what CEO Jussi Pesonen described as a “strong year” for the overall group, although its Communication Papers business remained loss-making.
