The cyclone had been moving slowly across the Arabian Sea for eight days before making landfall. Scientists attribute warm sea surface temperatures to Biparjoy's extended life span, which lasted longer than any other cyclone in the Arabian Sea's recent history, surpassing Cyclone Kyarr in 2019.
