Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 26 (ANI): Ahead of the predicted landfall of the very severe cyclonic storm Yaas on the north Odisha-West Bengal coast on Wednesday aftenoon, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spent the night in state secretariat, Nabanna reviewing preparations and monitoring the situation on ground.
The state government has set up a round-the-clock control room in the secretariat annexe to monitor the situation.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the landfall process of the very severe cyclonic storm Yaas would commence within a couple of hours to cross North Odisha coast to the north Dhamra and south of Balasore. ....

New Delhi [India], May 26 (ANI): The landfall process of Cyclone Yass started around 9 am on Wednesday between Dhamra and Balasore in Odisha and is expected to continue for about three to four hours, said Odisha Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena on Wednesday.
While speaking to the media, he further said that the tail of the cyclone is expected to completely move to the landmass by 1 pm.
Landfall process started around 9 o clock and is expected to continue for 3-4 hrs. It s expected that by around 1 pm, the tail end of the cyclone will also be completely moving to landmass. It is making landfall between Dhamra and Balasore, Jena said. ....

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 25 (ANI): Two persons were electrocuted and at least 80 houses were damaged in Hooghly and North 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal due to strong winds and heavy rainfall on Tuesday at the onset of cyclone Yaas.
Briefing the mediapersons at state secretariat Nabanna , West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, In view of Cyclone Yaas, 11.5 lakh people have been evacuated. In the impact of the strong winds, 40 houses were damaged in Halisahar with 4-5 people sustained injuries. 40 houses were damaged in Chuchura. Unfortunately, two people have died due to lightning in Pandua. Several houses and electricity poles were damaged and trees uprooted in Naihati and Halisahar of North 24 Paragans district due to the strong winds that hit the region earlier on Tuesday evening. Local police personnel were present at the site. ....
