Which is to serve the public interest not to do the bidding of industry. but certainly, you have proposals that have come from the agencies to the white house that go through the office of management budget. there is a cost benefit analysis, as dan just pointed out. you obviously want to make sure that the benefits far outweigh the costs and the science justifies it. as somebody who ran a regulatory agency, the one thing i knew full well, i never monkey around with the data, i never monkey around with the science. in the end you, have to go to court and justify these regulations. this is an administration that has done quite badly in court. they have been saved a coupe of times by the right wing judges. but so often the efforts to roll back regulations have been defeated in a court. so part of this push and pull insures that if you re going to do a regulatory change, it s done in way that is defensible. dan, in toto, how much of a threat is this? when you look at everything, the clea ....

Their entire research arm out of washington so they could get rid of the federal employees, and then across the government, they ve essentially stacked all of the regulatory agencies with industry officials. and so none of this is on the level. none of this is about helping business. none of this certainly is about helping the environment. and as you rightly point out, we have a category 4 hurricane coming in our direction right now. instead of recognizing the impact of climate change on severe weather events, they re essentially throwing more fuel on to the fire. dan, let me ask you this as someone who worked in the epa and has been in environmental circles for a while. i want to pose to you the same question i posed to former administrator whitman, which is basically, is this administration different you think that a rubio or jeb bush or if some other republican had been the president at this hour. yeah. are they sort of towing the republican line which is roll back environment ....

Environmental protection agency. we ve lost that p. we have really lost the e. too. it s just an agency right now. final question. you re a long-standing republican governor. served in a republican administration. do you see yourself voting for donald trump again? no. don t say again. you didn t vote the first time. he lost you before this. christine todd whitman, it was a great pleasure to have you here. a pleasure. good to be here. for more on the trump administration s unprecedented assault on the environment, i m joined by dan kennonan and chris lu. dan, let me pick up on where christine todd whitman just left off, which i think is interesting. sure. which is the way they re going about this. the 84 rules they have attacked and whether they have assembled the necessary procedures and data and showing of good cause and process to be able to essentially get away with it. i think it s a really good question, chris. and the governor and former administrator mentioned ....

Around with the science. in the end you, have to go to court and justify these regulations. this is an administration that has done quite badly in court. they have been saved a coupe of times by the right wing judges. but so often the efforts to roll back regulations have been defeated in a court. so part of this push and pull insures that if you re going to do a regulatory change, it s done in way that is defensible. dan, in toto, how much of a threat is this? when you look at everything, the clean power rule, withdrawing from paris obviously, possibly open up the national forest in alaska, the methane rule, what does it add up to in terms of tangible material harm? this action here, against the minimum de minimis impact to industry economic impact bottom line, we re going get five million metric tons of methane pollution which could heat four ....
