Maguindanao del Sur Governor Mariam Mangudadatu says the elections in her province went generally peaceful except for some disturbances

Two persons were dead, while four others were wounded in a shooting incident in Maguindanao del Norte an hour before the opening of polling precincts for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2023 on Monday, October 30, 2023.

As the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) marred parts of Mindanao with bloodshed, candidates and supporters alike fell victim to the violence. In one incident, a candidate for barangay captain was killed by his own brother, who is also running for the same post. In another incident, two persons were killed, while four others were wounded in a shooting incident. Tensions ran high and voting was disrupted in several areas as a result of the violence.

The schools – located in Maguindanao del Norte barangays listed as areas of grave concern for the 2023 barangay elections – are designated voting centers for the October 30 vote
