Khairuddin names AG Idrus in judicial review challenging emergency proclamation

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 4): A stalwart of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has filed a judicial review application against Attorney General (AG) Tan Sri Idrus Harun, wanting the court to declare that his move to accompany Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 11 to get an emergency declaration is invalid as the premier did not have a majority.
Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan filed the application yesterday evening in the High Court, through the law firm Messrs Haniff Khatri where he named Idrus as the sole respondent.
Prior to this, he had also filed an originating summons on Jan 18, against Muhyiddin to question the legitimacy of the premier's advice to the Agong to declare a state of emergency where the application is fixed for hearing at the High Court on Feb 19.

Machang MP made right decision to withdraw support for Perikatan, says Anwar

"The government has neither been able to effectively handle the Covid-19 pandemic nor the economy.
"Investors are also not coming in and this has led to many problems," the PKR president told reporters after handing over face masks to policemen at the district police station here Monday (Jan 11).
Anwar said tactics to buy over politicians by offering them positions should also stop.
"We need to have the political will to save the country and not the positions of one or two people.
"We need to plan the direction the country needs to take," he said.
On Saturday (Jan 9), Ahmad Jazlan said he no longer supported Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's leadership.

More Umno MPs may withdraw support from Perikatan soon, says Nazri

PETALING JAYA: More Umno MPs may announce their withdrawal of support for the Perikatan Nasional government led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the coming days, says Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.
According to Nazri, he believes that Machang MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub’s recent announcement to withdraw support for Perikatan might be a triggering factor for other Umno MPs to follow suit.
“I believe many other MPs will do that in the coming days. Just wait and see.”
“A majority of Umno divisions have passed a resolution not to work with ‘bunga’ (flower) for the general election and the Umno MPs, who are also division heads in their constituencies, can act on the basis of support from the grassroots,” he said, referring to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s flower logo.

The Parliament of Malaysia.
KUALA LUMPUR: The sitting of the Third Session of the 14th Parliament which adjourned on Dec 17, saw the country’s system of parliamentary democracy remaining intact and strong amid the political uncertainty and threat of the Covid-19 pandemic.
After the political crisis in February marked by the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government and appointment of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the country’s eighth Prime Minister, the issue of the legitimacy of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government continued to cloud national politics.
Focus was on the parliamentary sitting scheduled for May 18 after the then Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof received a motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister which was tabled ed by the Member of Parliament for Langkawi, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
