Gainesville Police Department recently reinstated its K-9 unit, despite former controversies across the past few years.
The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Northwest 10th Avenue.
The Gainesville Police Department responded to a report at 10 a.m. in which a driver hit an older woman and her 2-year-old grandchild who were crossing Northwest 10th Avenue and Main Street.
GPD spokesperson David Chudzik said the department decided to reinstate the unit because of its significant value.
Police Chief Lonnie Scott administered the oath of office Friday to the dozen new members in the Hall of Heroes, located in the GPD headquarters.
