Randi Kirshbaum's attorney argues Saga Communications violated her civil rights.
Without notice or hearing, the state removed the workers’ unemployment benefits — just over $163,000 — from their prison accounts.
She endured a hostile work environment because of her gender and sexual orientation while working at the Maine State Prison and Bolduc Correctional Facility, according to the lawsuit.
The settlement totals over $367,000.
In the settlement, the state is returning the seized benefits and agreed that money in prison accounts belongs to the incarcerated individuals and cannot be seized without due process.
