The dream season for Eastern Randolph looked like it would end in a nightmare in the first half. However, the Wildcats put together a comeback beyond its wildest imagination and stunned Bishop McGuinness 62-59 in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 1A West Region final in the state boys basketball tournament.
Eastern Randolph picked up its 21st win of the season in a 98-70 blowout over Trinity on the Wildcats' senior night. The Wildcats now have an overall record of 21-2 going into the final game of the season on Friday night. Eastern Randolph was led by senior standout forward DaVonte Brooks, who scored 32 points.
Davonte Brooks ran for two touchdowns and Eastern Randolph earned an outright conference title in the PAC-7 1A/2A with a 28-13 victory over Randleman on Friday. With the win, the Wildcats finished the regular season 9-1 (5-0), having won nine straight after dropping their season opener. The loss for Randleman (7-3, 4-1) snapped a four-game winning streak by the Tigers.
