RAJKOT: An eight-year-old girl was saved from being sold off in the marriage market after she was rescued from the clutches of her kidnapper, a farm labourer in Rajkot district’s Padadhari taluka.
Accused Dayaram Bhil, who had abducted the girl nearly three weeks ago, was bringing her up with his family. “Bhil told us about a tradition among tribal communities that the groom’s family pays money to the bride’s at the time of marriage. So he wanted to take care of the girl for a few years then marry her off for the money,” said investigating officer Kiran Jadeja.
