What we are currently looking for is a way of stopping it spreading. now skygazers in parts of the northern hemisphere have been treated to a solar eclipse. one of natures most dazzling spectacles the moon casting it s shadow across the sun leaving a sliver of light around the edge. but where you are depends on what you can see. the total eclipse began in canada before travelling over the artic and ending in siberia. with most of the northern hemisphere only treated to a partial eclipse. as seen here in the uk this the view from edinburgh in scotland. slightly cloudy but you can see the sun missing a bit. the best views we have seen so far are from northern canada where the blazing intensity of the sun is marked by the missing piece covered by the moon. this special event is known as an annular eclipse as the moon is slightly further away from the earth sometimes creating an effect know as the ring of fire where the suns light is visible around the outline of the moon. ....
