ATSUM denounces MOU, suspends VP Vanlanlian Khaute
The ATSUM were picked up by Imphal West police on August 2 morning ahead of ATSUM’s proposed bandh called to press the state government for tabling and passing of the Manipur (Hill Areas) ADC Bill, 2021 recommended by the Hill Areas Committee.
The Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) appealed to ATSUM to change its mode of agitation into a democratic way by revoking its agitations like total shutdown and economic blockade which affects the rights of other communities.
An ATSUM leader, on the condition of anonymity, said that the apex tribal students’ body is ready to lift the ongoing economic blockade and call off the ongoing agitations once the arrested ATSUM leaders and members, who were sent to judicial custody, are freed.
Earlier, security forces, including Kangpokpi police, had safely escorted more than a hundred stranded vehicles on the midnight of August 5.
