Vehicles involved in accidents increase

The number of vehicles involved in road accidents in Davao City has increased, according to the Davao City Police Office-Traffic Enforcement Unit (DCPO-TEU). From January to October 2023, there were approximately 8,000 reported cases, compared to 7,187 in 2022, marking an 18 percent increase. The number of incidents also rose from 4,248 to 4,776, an 11 percent increase. Private vehicles accounted for 28 percent of accidents, followed by motorcycles at 13 percent and trucks at 17 percent. The unit attributes most accidents to human error, vehicle defects, and road defects. The DCPO-TEU has intensified its operations, particularly during peak accident hours from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. However, the unit expressed relief that homicide cases accounted for only one percent of the total accidents. ....
