On any given day in Las Animas the week of June 21, around 30 to 50 volunteers could be found painting the homes of elderly, disabled and veteran residents. It was quite the feat, Las Animas City Councilwoman Cassandra Torres Siefkas said. I am impressed with the turnout because I was looking to do this come hell or high water. It was really neat to see that many people were willing to stand up and come out and volunteer in the hot weather and get houses painted.
Paint and Connect, a six-day project spearheaded by Siefkas, brought over 50 to 60 total volunteers throughout the week from various churches, schools, local businesses and other areas around Southeastern Colorado.
