Press conference in paris. molly, give us a sense of how difficult it is to access this area. reena, we haven t even gotten close. this is as close as we have gotten. you can only get there by helicopter. once rescuers take those helicopters, they have to belay, actually winch themselves down in to the crash site. you can t get there by hiking or four-wheel drive which is actually astounding that helicopters were able to locate the crash site and arrive within 30 minutes yesterday. so it is daylight there now, molly. what are the biggest priorities for crews today? their priorities are getting the bodies out and getting debris out. the biggest chunks of debris out so investigators can get looking, get investigating and get researching on what actually and how those pieces broke apart. and of course, for the families that are arriving here. the mourning families to get the bodies back to them. families are coming from all ....
Relation to the four pings. not an exact science unfortunately. you know, david, just yesterday, australian prime minister tony abbott had said the search was narrowing and that he was confident they were going to find the black box. now on day 37 as we sit here we re getting all these conflicting reports and these messages. what do you make of this investigation and we know that things change during investigations, but this has been 37 days of ups and downs and twists and turns. would you have expected them to have something more contreat by now? i think there s a bit of confusion at least in my mind. they re not really being specific when they say they expand the searches, is it the air search they expanded or the search for the black box? because the black box from what i ve got information wise is that it s actually stayed the same. it hasn t gone anywhere. it s the air search, the drift that s gotten larger and that would make sense to me. by now the ocean spread the debris ....
Rescue operation. we will not stop until we are certain that anyone who was in the building has been recovered. and so is it your assumption that maybe one person, maybe two may still be trapped underneath that rubble? you want to make sure no one is traps, i understand that, but what is the best estimate right now? wolf, we re not making any assumptions and we re not going to speculate. what we re going to do is be sure. we re going to do everything we possibly can. philadelphia fire department and the pennsylvania task force, these are experts at what they do. we will not stop. and our efforts will not be impeded by anything. we will get the debris out. that s what they call layering. we ll take layer after layer after layer off of the street and off of the scene until we know for sure that there are no people there. we ve had the rescue dogs in for some time. and now we re doing this ....
Enormous. what will recovery look like? how long do you think it will take? it s going to take a while to get through all this. we certainly are making a plan to move by stages. as you mentioned, we hope are in the recovery stage now. as i drove in this morning you could see they are starting to move debris off the roadways onto the sides of the curves. we are seeing that in some of the public areas in the neighborhoods not going on the property where the homes are because we are allowing people to come in now and look for personal property and hopefully they ll be able to find a couple things. in the meantime we have to start getting debris out. one thing i noticed today in going to one of the school sites is it s beginning to smell out there. that is one reason why you have to get the debris out. now you can maybe clear this up for me. i heard that there is something historically in this area of a controversy in terms of 1999, individuals were given responsibility for clearing ....
More vehicles here. couple of other buildings ripped off their foundations and ripped apart. we re coming to the area now where the tornado actually finally lifted up into the air. we watched as it formed as a little sliver of a thing in the clouds, dipped down just a couple of times and then eventually came down with the full force with just a tip about that size at the bottom. then it widened out, spread across. and the area of destruction came smaller and smaller. and up here in front of us, this is the area where the tornado thankfully and finally lifted up into the sky. so there s a lot of work ahead for the people of oklahoma city and the surrounding area, certainly here in the moore area. they re going to have to restore power, clean up the streets, get all the debris out. but just as they did in 1999, they say they will rebuild. coming up in the next few minutes we ll meet some residents, take you through the neighborhoods and get to the rest of the day s news across the countr ....
