Europe, pledging by the end of this year they will be able to wean themselves off two thirds of russian gas. whether they can do that still remains to be seen, but what we are looking at here is a decoupling, a decoupling of the russian economy and energy from europe, it s a significant follow-on by-product of this whole war. this will hurt russia, too. russia won t get the revenue from poland and bulgaria. as i was waking up this morning getting both of these pieces of information, you can see it on the map here, this is ukraine right here, this is poland, this is bulgaria, this is where the strikes are. all of a sudden this is expanding. water in ukraine is expanding in different ways, but it s expanding beyond the borders. it s a good point. we have tended to think of the expansion of this war purely in military terms, right? could it be possible that russia might strike, say, weapons convoys coming from poland inside nato territory? ....

Captioned by media access group at wgbh access.wgbh.org live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix 5 news. now at 6:00, covid cases on the rise yet again here in the bay area. cases could be even higher than what we are seeing on paper. why this time feels different than just a few months ago. we have a very dramatic decoupling so far. i think folks attitudes have changed about it in terms of maybe not being as fearful about it. a huge fentanyl bust in alameda county to the tune of more than $4 million. today, we speak to a former addict turned activist. we feel like we re just screaming into the abyss. help our kids. help these communities. the uphill battle brewing to install a staircase in one east bay neighborhood. why some fear the stairs could lead to more crime. good evening. ....

CNN Inside Politics With John King June 4, 2024 16:18:00

Would absolutely urge for people, especially if they are vulnerable. if they are concerned about getting covid, to be caring an n95, kn95 or kf94 mask whenever they are in crowded indoor settings. that includes on airplanes, on buses otrains. just do that because that protects you very, very well. what you just described there was in part common sense. if you are in a tightly congested environment, a lot of people around, if you don t know them. you don t know if they re vaccinated or boosted. why don t you put on a mask? what s the harm. but where is the science? we ve been at this more than two years. i m grateful for your insights. we have seen sometimes in the past when cases start to go up, wait a week or two, hospitalizations tend to track up afterwards. right now there s a significant gap. the red line is hospitalizations. it s more flat lined. are we seeing less severe cases of covid so this is not as big a deal? is that a fair way to put it? i think it s fair to say that w ....

Metrics of the hospital capacities. if we are talking about the early days of the pandemic, then we will talk about the impetus of this. but when you are talking about the decoupling, the cases are up, but the deaths are falling, that is exactly where we want to be with this virus, because it is no going to be eradicated or limited, and go back to 2019 to be pre-pandemic world, but if we can manage it with antimo antimonoclonals, and you can have treatments rather than government-issued edicts which are politicized and often get people not to comply, because it is coming from the government. i wanted to ask you, because the white house has a different take, because the justice department says it is going to ....

Appeal this ruling if the cdc says it is necessary, and this is where the timing of where two weeks before it expires is coming into play, but you have to new white house lead on covid, and he called the judge s decision deeply disappointing, and also saying, and writing this, the cdc scientists had asked for 15 days to make a more data-driven durable decision, and we should have given it to them, and is he wrong? i don t necessarily think he is wrong, but it is unclear what would have changed in 15 days. we know that ba.2 is going to increase, and it is unlikely to see the hospitals get into any problem in 15 days, because of the decoupling that we were talking about, and so i am not sure what they were trying to answer in 15 days and maybe buy some time, but it is not that difference of the mask mandate lifted yesterday or may 3rd as scheduled. i don t think that things will be ap prpreciably changing in 1 ....
