MUSCAT Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq took a new step towards restructuring the security and defence system in the Sultanate of Oman and changing the influential faces in it by issuing decrees that reshuffled the Defence Council, which is the highest body responsible for Omani defence affairs, as well as reshuffling the country’s Security Council. He also promoted a number of officers and handed them essential tasks in the military establishment while excluding other influential figures.
The Oman News Agency indicated that the royal decrees restructured the organisation and the role of the Defence Council, and placed a member of the royal family in the second position after the Sultan in the council.
