To ambassador gordon sondland he wanted to know what the status of the investigations is, and that was something very damaging, a lot of democrats thought, to the president today and the president talked about this at a press conference a short while ago. here s what he had to say. i hear it s a joke. i haven t watched. i haven t watched for one minute because i ve been with the president much more important as far as i m concerned. i know nothing about that, the first time i ve heard it. the one thing i heard sondland said he did speak to me for a brief moment and i said no quid pro quo under any circumstances. and that s true. i ve never heard this. in any event, it s more second-hand information but i ve never heard it. do you recall a conversation? i don t recall, no, not at all, not even a little bit. i guess sondland stayed with his testimony that there was no quid pro quo. pure and simple. now, of course, we are going to be hearing from gordon ....

Members of congress and he was calm, measured and got the point out, substantively and rhetorically at one point. he said i want to spend time reading the transcript as we ve been encouraged to do which is clearly a message to everyone, read the transcript and when he got the witnesses to repeat what was in the readout of the call between president trump and president zelensky that was powerful and 45 minutes seems like a long time in a congressional hearing. it s a small amount of time if you re a trial lawyer, and i think he did a good job. what about the republican counsel, steve caster, how effective was he? he was less effective, and as i said, i was a colleague of dan and i know him well. this other lawyer, mr. caster, i don t know. it may be, but he s not as experienced and not as seasoned. he seemed to be casting about a little bit and it may be the case that a lot of people don t have a lot to work with and a member of congress can t give ....

Investigations. the news conference with the turkish president, the president says he doesn t remember any such calls, pooh-poohing the whole thing. what do you say to the president? if he doesn t remember making a call like that, i would be quite concerned. that doesn t mean that it didn t happen. i think a lot of what the president s reactions tend to be, deflecting, put i think it is quite telling he is not being defensive about this. this is an extraordinarily serious allegation that is being made by a person who works in his administration. if he were to defend this, he should do so quite forcefully. the allegation coming from someone within his administration is extraordinarily serious, not something you remember or not remembering whether you did or didn t do. at the of the initial messaging in all of this uproar involve the words, quid pro quo. do democrats, congresswoman, need to fine tune their language on all of this. ....

The transcripts. you see the tweet right there. he also says republicans should put out their own transcripts. the thing here is that there are 47 republicans on the respective committees that have been doing this closed-door interviews and we know based on reading the transcripts that have come out so far, that republicans have had equal time to question the witnesses and they ve done that. and you ve not heard a single republican on the committees suggest that somehow the transcripts on their own were not on the up-and-up. so come wednesday, the first day of the public impeachment hearings, we know that president trump can offering up some of his own counter-programming. he s going to have an afternoon press conference so that is his way of deflecting attention away from the impeachment proceedings that house democrats have in mind, hallie. and i think, geoff, we also have reaction this morning from press secretary stephanie grisham on the impeachment inquiry going public. she rare ....

Process to deal with economic issues. maybe if he hadn t been so singly focused on that it could have ironically helped him in the polls. neil: that s interesting. what do you think? as i said before, i think we re in the united states of america, i think you re innocent until you re proven guilty. i don t think the street cares. we re at all-time record highs. low interest rates, and the consumer has an enormous amount of confidence with lower interest rates, they can buy housing and cars and i think we re in a great market. neil: shouldn t the president, to your point then, focus on all of that, and not seemingly get distracted to charles point as richard nixon might have in the eyes of the public, in the announcement of the impeachment process? i don t think he s distracted, he s deflecting. neil: he talks about it all the time. it s on the forefront maybe he should ignore. that s his personality, he can t help himself. the markets are doing great and will continue to do ....
