A white house spokesman echoed the president s weekend treat that the dems counter memo is a bust. i think the president is right. the memo is a bust. it doesn t undercut the serious questions raised by the nunes memo about the f.b.i. and department of justice s conduct the year before last in this fisa warrant and this investigation all together. the ranking democrat adam schiff said their memo vindicates the f.b.i. i am not surprised the president doesn t like it. i m not surprised frankly that the white house tried to bury this memo response as long as they could. but it is important for the public to see the facts that the f.b.i. acted appropriately in seeking a warrant on carter page. they aren t part of some deep state as the president apparently would like the public to believe. house democrats say their investigation into russian interference in the 2016 election will continue. republicans have control of that house intelligence ....
Advisor. they confirmed that. the memo also confirmed that the justice department and the f.b.i. did not tell that secret court that the hillary clinton campaign and the democratic national committee were paying for that dossier. it had some very fuzzy language about the f.b.i. speculating that the backer of the dossier might have a political motive. one more thing, the republican memo had said that andrew mccabe who was a top f.b.i. official at the time had told the committee that without that dossier there just wouldn t have been a warrant. democrats at the time came out and said that s not true, that s not what andrew mccabe said. in this new memo they don t mention it. a lot of republicans are taking that as a confirmation of that, too. bill: seems to me the law doesn t require you to reveal names, does it? if it doesn t before the fisa judge, that s a bad law. it s a complicated thing. the democrats are saying they ....
For by the democrats. what they did, they put it in a footnote so people couldn t see it. the chairman of house intelligence says he was fine with his release. the republicans wanted this out. we believe it proves everything we said in our memo to be true. we talked specifically about fisa abuse and they re saying it s okay for one party to essentially get dirt, use it to spy on another party. and that just is never going to be okay in america. chuck schumer said the memo says: a key democrat on house intelligence defended the memo. it was that the individual who did this work was acting in a way that was designed to find dirt. not the exact word but designed ....
The weekend that came out saturday afternoon. where do things stand now? the democratic memo does dispute the republican claims that the f.b.i. and justice department abused its power to conduct surveillance of a trump campaign aide carter page. nunes said over the weekend the rebuttal hurts the democrats because it confirms political research was used to open a highly sensitive counter intelligence investigation. you have a political party in this country actually saying don t worry, american public, it s okay, we do this all the time. we ll go dig up dirt on our opponent, get it from russians and the brits and take it to the f.b.i. and open up an investigation to another campaign. democrats say the trump dossier was a political document but specifics that it was funded by the dnc and clinton campaign were properly withheld because of the f.b.i. s longstanding tradition to protect sources and methods. ....
Up in arms over this schiff memo, the republican memo, in that it only painted a slice, kind of only gave us a one-sided picture of what tib if he fbi w dealing with. and with this dem memo, it really sought to answer some of these questions about whether the fbi abused its power to obtain these secret court-approved wiretaps, and whether as the republicans were saying whether it was politically motivated. now, the dems memo gives us a fuller picture of what the fbi and the department of justice told judges to obtain these warrants. they do say that there was a political aspect of the dossier and who was doing the work and why it was being done, was revealed. you know, they revealed this to the judges, according to the dem memo. also this notion that parts of the dossier weren t corroborated. the fbi told the court they obtained information independently from sources, corroborating some of the dossier details. another key point that s different in the two memos, ....
