Pibor authorities rescue 10 abductees At least eight children and two women have been rescued from their abductors in parts of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) as part of a recovery mission in the region. According to government officials there, the mission is to have all the abducted women and children in parts of Greater Pibor rescued from their abductors. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Monday, Lokali Amae, a lawmaker at the GPAA legislative council, and a member of the recovery committee, said the 10 abductees were recovered since Saturday. He urged the authorities in Jonglei to also recover those abducted from their side, reiterating that they are committed to peace.

According to health professionals in the state, the lack of access to safe blood continues to be a major health concern and accounts for fatalities, especially among anemic patients. They say relatives are the main source of blood donation, but incompatibility issues and lack of donors, worsen the situation.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Albino Gatkek, the county’s acting commissioner said the women and the child were abducted along the Ayod-Uror road. “The information came from one of the women who managed to escape from the kidnappers at the Pabiarol area. The number of the women was five, but one of them managed to escape unhurt and informed us in Ayod about what had happened,” Gatkek explained. The local official pointed out that the gunmen’s intentions were not clear, revealing that the local youth were still pursuing the attackers to recover the abductees.

Bishop Gabriel Kuc of ECSS Kongoor Diocese and his Wangolei Diocese colleague Bishop Zechariah Manyyok Biar arrived Bor Saturday morning, prompting a chaotic scene at the Bor airport as security apparatus tried to expel the two bishops. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Tuesday, Lt. Colonel John Mawut Ngang, the state police spokesperson, said they had to expel the two bishops Saturday because they defied a government order banning any ECSS bishop from going to Jonglei until the ongoing leadership dispute is resolved, saying their presence would incite violence among the faithful.

In Jonglei, ECSS members often hold processions and night prayers on the eve of Christmas and New Year days, during which they seek repentance, forgiveness, and harmonious living. However this year, as a result of tensions emanating from the defrocking of Reuben Akurdit of the Jonglei internal province in August, Duom Kuol Ager, the secretary-general of Jonglei State, said Christians will not be allowed to huddle for celebrations during the festivities to avoid violence among the rival ECSS camps.
