The Amazing True Story of How The Allies Supplied Malta during WWII

Card image cap

Malta was a strategic lynchpin during World War II, one the Allies were unwilling to abandon.
Here's What You Need to Remember: Malta never forgot Operation Pedestal and the
Ohio. In 1946, crowds cheered and bands played as the rusty hulk of the tanker was towed out of the Grand Harbor for the last time. While a remembrance service was conducted for those who died in the convoy, she was sunk in the waters she had plied during one of the naval epics of World War II.
Located 58 miles south of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea, the rocky, 122-square-mile island of Malta was the hinge upon which all Allied operations in the Middle East turned during the first half of World War II.

Why in the Central African Republic, Reparations Should Come First

Why in the Central African Republic, Reparations Should Come First
With a special court that has yet to open a trial and a truth commission that is not up and running, international attention on victims in the Central African Republic is waning. Since 2015, the unfulfilled promises of justice made to these victims have failed to address their daily realities and needs for immediate moral, physical, and material reparations, writes Rim El Gantri, one of the authors of a recent study by NGOs ICTJ and Cordaid.

Serbian women with disabilities shatter taboos, transform health services amid pandemic - Serbia

Serbian women with disabilities shatter taboos, transform health services amid pandemic
Format
BELGRADE, Serbia -- Mónika Zsúnyi, 26, can do many extraordinary things. Living in Temerin, Serbia, she has an advanced degree in applied mathematics and spends her time doing 3D modelling. She is an avid reader and community organizer. She is also -- like more than a billion people around the world -- living with a disability.
"I am a woman with a disability," Ms. Zsúnyi told UNFPA. "I live with cerebral palsy. I have difficulty speaking and moving."
This fact does nothing to diminish the richness of her life and relationships; it is time for health services to reflect this reality, she asserts.

Why nations relying on China's Covid jabs are at risk of more waves

Why nations relying on China's Covid jabs are at risk of more waves

Countries relying on China's Covid vaccines may be vulnerable to future waves of the disease, scientists warned today.
Experts told MailOnline the spiralling crisis in Chile should send a warning to the rest of the world that Chinese-made jabs are too weak to halt the spread of the virus, even with a successful immunisation programme.
At least 53 countries have ordered doses of the Chinese vaccines, many of which are developing nations in South America, Africa and South East Asia. The fact they are cheap and easy to store has made them ideal for countries which do not have the special equipment to keep other jabs at ultra-cold temperatures.

Special Report Analysis and Conclusions on Djibouti President’s Fifth Term
April 12, 2021 GMT
--News Direct--
LONDON, UK - Media OutReach - 12 April 2021 - PANGEA-RISK https://www.pangea-risk.com/ published a special report on DJIBOUTI: ELECTIONS TAMPERING AND ARMS SMUGGLING ALLEGATIONS MAR PRESIDENT’S FIFTH TERM, which alleges vote manipulation and government implication in arms smuggling.
The results of Djibouti’s 9 April presidential elections seem unrealistic given evidence of ballot burning by the country’s aggrieved population. Despite prospects of a swift economic recovery this year, there remain serious concerns over debt affordability, especially to China. Meanwhile, the country’s entrenched elite and the security forces are increasingly implicated in regional arms trafficking allegations.

Stoudts Black Angus Restaurant in Lancaster County closes
Updated 10:15 AM;
A Lancaster County restaurant attached to a well-known craft brewery has closed.
The couple’s daughter, Carey Stoudt, confirmed via email the restaurant and bier garden had recently closed due to COVID-19. She also said they are in contract with a buyer who is interested in taking over the entire physical property.
The property includes the former brewery and restaurant as well as an antiques mall, which remains open.
As for the brewery, Carey Stoudt said the family is keeping the Stoudts brand including recipes and beer styles and may sell when they find the right buyer. She said they sold the brewing equipment.

Year-End Now Target for COVID Jabs: Australian Trade Minister
The Morrison government is aiming to have all Australians inoculated with at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine by the end of the year.
But Trade Minister Dan Tehan says the world is still under the cloud of a pandemic and things can quickly change.
Last week, the government’s vaccine program suffered a major set-back after health authorities recommended the AstraZeneca vaccine should only be given to people above 50 due to the risk of blood clotting.
It was the vaccine the government was relying heavily on, but it has since secured an additional 20 million Pfizer vaccine doses that will be shipped from abroad later in the year.

Thousands protest in Belgrade, demand government action to stop pollution

By Reuters Staff
Slideshow ( 5 images )
BELGRADE (Reuters) - Several thousand people blocked traffic in front of the Serbian parliament on Saturday in a protest against lack of government action to prevent water, land and air pollution by industries such as the mining sector.
Protesters, who came to Belgrade from all over Serbia, held banners reading “Cut corruption and crime not forests,” and “Young people are leaving because they cannot breathe”.
In recent years Serbia has started selling its mining resources to foreign companies, despite opposition by local residents who had warned that increased ore exploration could cause greater pollution.
The former Yuoslav republic, which in the 1990s went through a decade of wars and economic crisis, has lacked resources to tackle pollution. As it seeks to join the European Union, Serbia will need billions of euros of investment to meet the bloc’s environmental standards.
