fishing trip in northeast florida is safely back on land. after being rescued about 12 miles, that's 19 kilometers off the coast of st. augustine. the 25-year-old charles gregory was found alive. cnn's camila bernal has the story for you. >> reporter: this is a fascinating story of survival. and i spoke to raymond gregory, the father of the 25-year-old lost at sea. this son charles gregory went out 4:00 in the morning on friday, according to his father. he went out fishing, said he's always done this, done it for years but this time, according to his father, he didn't realize that the tide was going as fast as it was. that's when a wave comes and hits the boat. it capsizes, that's when he loses his throw cushion, his cell phone, his life jacket. and his father saying that charles had to remove the motor

rescue him, and in an effort to flag down and now, gregory's father talked to. he then said that he struggled for 35 hours to stay alive and he lost his seat cushion and everything that he needed to protect him, but he said that at the end of the day, the whole moral of the story is "don't ever give up." we are told that the coast guard eventually spotted him by airplane, and brought him back to the shore, and he is being treated for severe sun burns and dehydration, but john, he has quite a story to tell about spending 35 off of the coast of st. augustine. >> i get the whole sea in stuck

son was on was hit by a large wave, and once that boat began taking on water, well, the current, it took it out some 12 miles off the coast of st. augustine. according to the united states coast guard, 25- year-old charles gregory, he went out on this fishing trip early friday morning, and then he ran into some pretty big problems early on in that trip. he was on board this 12 foot boat, a lightweight vessel but has this flat bottom portion to it there. according to his father, he hit this large wave, causing the boat to start taking on water. throughout this entire process , charles ends up losing his cell phone, he ends up losing his life vest, ends up losing a seat cushion because all that goes overboard, but he makes the decision to try to hold onto this boat. we are told at some point,
