Robinson was a graduate of Steelton High School. He served for more than 20 years in the U.S. Coast Guard. Robison served two tours of duty in Vietnam during which time he received the Marine Corp Navy Bronze Star. Later in his career, he became one of the Coast Guard’s first Black drill instructors.
