Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) has come across a first-of-its-kind case of White Fungus which causes multiple perforations throughout the intestine in a COVID-19 patient, doctors said today.
"White Fungus (Candida) causing multifocal perforations in the food pipe, small bowel and large bowel in COVID-19 infection has not been reported in literature to the best of our knowledge," Dr Anil Arora, Chairman of the Institute of Liver, Gastroenterology and Pancreaticobiliary Sciences at the hospital, told news agency Press Trust of India.

A 56-year-old Delhi resident, Kumar lost his wife and other two family members due to
COVID. He had barely completed the last rites of his wife when he experienced pain in his abdomen. He had also tested positive for COVID along with his wife and been experiencing mild covid symptoms initially. His abdominal pain was considered gastritis/ stress-related and self-medication for acidity was taken which delayed proper treatment by three days. He was finally evaluated in the COVID emergency of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. The CT scan revealed his small intestine (jejunum) had perforated. His COVID disease also had worsened by now requiring ventilator support.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Saturday set up a 12-member National Task Force (NTF) to facilitate public health response to Covid-19, including streamlining of oxygen distribution in the country, based on scientific and specialized domain knowledge.
A bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and M.R. Shah said: "A consensus has emerged that there is a need to ensure that the allotments of medical oxygen to the states and UTs are made on a scientific, rational and equitable basis. At the same time, it must allow for flexibility to meet unforeseen demands due to emergencies which may arise within the allocated territories."

New Delhi [India], May 9 (ANI): Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases, the first meeting of the 12-member National Task Force set up by the Supreme Court to ensure that medical oxygen is delivered throughout the country in a streamlined manner through an effective and transparent mechanism was held on Sunday, sources said.
"All the National Task Force members commended the significant work done by Ministries and Departments of Government of India in augmenting the oxygen production capacities as well as in ensuring its efficient distribution," sources told ANI.
The task force members also provided specific suggestions on increasing oxygen production and availability, managing the demand side of medical oxygen, and parameters on which individual health facilities could ensure economy in the use of medical oxygen, sources said.

Supreme Court sets up national task force to streamline Oxygen allocation


Asking the NTF to “commence work immediately” taking up the pressing issue of determining the modalities for oxygen expeditiously within a week, the Bench said it shall submit its recommendations from time to time. The tenure of the task force should be six months initially, it said.
The court made 12-point term of reference which included assessing and making recommendations for the entire country based on the need for availability and distribution of medical oxygen and to facilitate auditing by sub-groups within each state/UT.
According to an order passed by a Bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice MR Shah, the Union Cabinet Secretary will be the NTF convener and the Union Health Secretary its ex officio member. The Cabinet Secretary might nominate an officer not below the rank of Additional Secretary to deputise for him, when necessary, it added.

The Supreme Court on Saturday constituted a 12-member national task force that would be tasked with formulating a methodology for the "scientific allocation of medical oxygen" to states and Union Territories (UTs) during the pandemic.
Issuing the order, a bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice MR Shah said this taskforce would be at liberty to draw upon the human resources of the Union government for consultation and information. It would also be free to formulate its modalities and procedure for working.
