AMES, Iowa â A 19-year-old from Normal was one of two killed when an Iowa State student crew club's boat capsized last week. The president of Iowa State's student crew club said winds that had been forecast to remain low picked up suddenly, causing the boat to capsize before the crew could return to shore. Derek Nanni, a freshman from Normal, and Yaakov Ben-David, 20, a sophomore from Washington, D.C., drowned in the accident March 28 on Little Wall Lake in Hamilton County.
