really started to get very bad, december 20th, 2024 detectives liu and ramos assassinated in their car in new york in brooklyn, because they wore a blue uniform. we ve lost so many others. this is familiar. killed, thief kids left behind a single mom. detectives rivera, mora, this past january. you have police officers all over, all over, all over the country, over 50 that have been killed, just by gunfire, forget about others that die in the line of duty and so we have a big job ahead of us. so it has been going on for a long time. people have been spewing hate towards law enforcement for a long time. we have defund the police people, we have this cashless bail. we have to, you say how we have to end it. i tell you what a good step would be. anybody who doesn t support our police officers and has spewed this hate or said defund the police, cashless bail, also the stuff, get them out. get them out.
we are joined this morning by correspondent miguel marquez. miguel let s start with the two police officers shot overnight. the main thing to point out here these were plain clothes police officers who were on duty. they were not targeted like the previous police officers detectives liu and ramos assassinated in their patrol car. they came upon a robbery. it is not clear they were wearing their protective vests as it sounds like they were getting off their shift when this went down. one shot in the arm and back. one shot in the arm after chest. one in surgery. both expected to survive. the mayor is siding with protesters and some of them saying the blood is on the mayor s hands. for the first time the mayor took a strong hand against his
cops. not the same as the ambush and killings of detectives liu and ramos. these were two individuals getting off work. they responded to a robbery in progress. they went to check it out. they got there. one of the individuals came out of a shop and shot one through the arm and in the back. that person is in critical but stable condition. one shot in the chest. it is not clear they were wearing their vests at the time as they were off duty. all of this happening with the anger by the mayor. the police officers turning their backs on the mayor at the hospital and the last time the two officers were shot and the funerals when the two officers were laid to rest. for the first time mayor bill de blasio had tough words for his own cops. those individuals who took certain actions the last week
him turn to the outside. with a large black revolver an old-school revolver, he turns and shoots out from the inside of the building out toward the plain clothes officers. one officer was hit. that was the revolver that police later found at the car that was abandoned that they hijacked. one officer hit in the arm and back. the other in the arm and chest. both are expected to survive. it is important to point out this is not the same situation as when detectives liu and ramos were assassinated in their squad car. these were two officers. it is shocking video to see. that video there where you see him at the top of the screen firing that weapon. a big gun that he has. these officers were in plain clothes and responding to a robbery. they may have been getting off work and may not have had
