Evidence a loving family reduces the likelihood of alcoholism later in life 29 April 2021 A study from Otago University has looked at links between parenting, and risks of alcohol and substance abuse in adulthood. Data was taken from the Christchurch Health and Development Study - research that's followed more than a thousand people since 1977. Psychological medicine professor Joe Boden says the findings are about as reliable as they come. He says measures were collected when participants were in adolescence - so all opinions and recollections are accurate.
