Council CEO, staff were at-odds over Sekisui's rooftop bar

Council planning staff and former CEO Michael Whittaker appeared at-odds over conditions for a rooftop bar in the Sekisui House Yaroomba Beach proposal just weeks before its approval. Councillors John Connolly, Christian Dickson, Steve Robinson, Tim Dwyer, Peter Cox and Mayor Mark Jamieson voted in favour. Dickson had no knowledge of mooted refusal: Cr Dickson said his "only insight into the assessment" was that council planners had been concerned about a "number of matters ranging from height, density, traffic, environment and resident objections". "At no stage was I aware that a refusal had been proposed and reviewed by senior staff...

Council responds to Sekisui approval revelations

Sunshine Coast Council has broken its silence after revelations about the controversial approval of Sekisui House's Yaroomba Beach five-star resort and housing development in 2018. A recent Right to Information release published by the council showed planners had been preparing to recommend refusal of the billion-dollar project just weeks before it was eventually recommended for approval and secured councillors' approval in a 6-5 vote at a special meeting. The council last week declined to respond to questions put by the Daily, citing the fact the matter was currently before the Court of ...
