PHUKET: Medical staff at Vachira Phuket Hospital are investigating whether COVID-19 was a contributing factor in the death of a 91-year-old woman whose body was found at her home in Karon last night (May 4) after she became a ‘high risk contact’ following the COVID exposure incident at Chalong Hospital.

Rescue workers, police and a medical team from the Phuket Provincial Hospital arrived at the woman’s home, in Moo 2 Karon, at 6:30pm last night.

UPDATE: Chalong Hospital Director Suchart Nichawanna announced in a revised update released this afternoon (May 3) that Chalong Hospital is expected to re-open on May 10.
Four patients who were receiving treatment at Chalong Hospital and four relatives who had been in close contact with them have been transferred to Dibuk Hospital, where they will be tested, Dr Suchart said.

PHUKET: Two expats from Phuket have tested positive for COVID-19 at the checkpoint leading onto the island while trying to return home from travelling off-island. One of them is an Italian man who returned from a trip to Krabi, the other is a Belgium man who had returned from Bangkok after visiting the Belgium embassy to renew his passport.

The Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) reported that the two men were required to be tested on arrival in Phuket due to the current policy mandating that all Phuket people returning to the island to be tested for COVID-19 if they are unable to prove that they are fully vaccinated or present a COVID-free certificate confirming they had tested negative for the virus within 72 hours of arriving in Phuket.

PHUKET: Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew yesterday inspected the ‘Field Hospital 2’ at the Prince of Songkla University (PSU) Phuket Campus as officials ready for a rise in COVID infections across the island.

The inspection came as the number of confirmed infected on the island rose to 58 yesterday. As of this morning (Apr 12), that number had risen to 74, reported the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO).
The aim is to have 500 beds available across Phuket for people infected with COVID-19 needing medical care, Governor Narong said during his inspection of the field hospital yesterday.
