Bhubaneswar: The severe cyclonic storm Yaas that struck Odisha coast near Dhamra in Bhadrak district, about 400 kms from here on Wednesday morning, has left behind a trail of destruction.
It has caused widespread damage to thatched houses, standing crops and trees in the rural belt of Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts. ....

BHUBANESWAR: As the very severe cyclone Yaas will make a landfall around Balasore and is likely to cause extensive damage to north coastal districts of the State, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday deputed minister of state for home Dibyashankar Mishra to monitor the situation in the district.
The state government has launched a massive evacuation drive in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore and Bhadrak districts which will bear the brunt of the cyclone. ....

Nearly 11 lakh people have been evacuated by the governments of Odisha and West Bengal ahead of the cyclone.
Indian Navy ships and aircraft are on standby for rescue ops.
The cyclonic storm is likely to gain a maximum speed of 155 kmph to 165 kmph gusting to 185 kmph during landfall.
The states of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand evacuated citizens on a war footing ahead of the landfall of Cyclone Yaas, which has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm on its course over the Bay of Bengal. A red-coded warning alert for the Odisha and Bengal coasts was sounded by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday. ....
