Sleepy Poet to close its doors in downtown Gastonia A business heralded as a game-changer by city officials when it arrived in downtown Gastonia five years ago will close its doors May 31. The Sleepy Poet, a three-floor antique mall located in the historic S.H. Kress Five and Dime Building on West Main Avenue, dominated the 100 block with more than 36,000 square feet of space. City officials envisioned the business bringing much-needed foot traffic to the downtown area.
