RAJKOT: Did you change your route after the cat crossed youth path? Were you sweating in anxiety after a glass of milk fell from you hands? If yes, the signs are ominous. You are diagnosed of suffering from serious superstitions.
A survey conducted by Saurashtra university’s psychology department on 1,260 people in both urban and rural areas to gauge people’s belief in superstitious beliefs came up with predictable results — science and superstition are two faces of the same coin, especially for people of Saurashtra. They seem to have deep-rooted beliefs about everything being auspicious and inauspicious.
The survey headed by HOD Yogesh Jogsan and associate professor, Dimpal Ramani found that people based their beliefs on a plethora of things including birds, animals, fruits, or flowers to classify anything under auspicious or inauspicious categories. Of the total people who were surveyed, 71 percent of rural people and 54 percent of urbanites were found to have strong beliefs about auspicious and inauspicious things.

Health experts in India have identified loitering “youngsters” as the country’s biggest COVID-19 superspreaders amid a devastating second wave of the virus.
Researchers at Saurashtra University in Gujarat's Rajkot city carried out a field survey as part of an effort to identify the virus superspreaders in and around the city. The survey involved 1,080 people, who were found loitering in the streets.
Roughly 71% of them, in the age group of 15-40 years, said they had no genuine reason to be outside, according to assistant professors Dimpal Ramani and Hasmukh Chavda.

Excessive precautions turn into obsession during Covid | Rajkot News

RAJKOT/SURAT/VADODARA: For a Rajkot-based Patel family, a concoction of black pepper, cinnamon, haldi, ginger and tulsi had become a three-times drink for all in the family of five. The ‘desi kadha’ was the best bet to stay safe during Covid-19 to maintain immunity. But the frequent shots left boils in the mouth while some got severe acidity and indigestion.
Similarly, fear coupled with stress made Vadodara’s Hemangi Shah wash her hands every 30 minutes and she got obsessed with checking if doors and windows of her 3-BHK apartment were properly shut.
Excessive precautions during Covid have resulted in a big spurt in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) across Gujarat. OCD is a mental condition where a person repeatedly keeps performing routine actions with so much frequency that it impairs normal working.
