Unions warn they will "up the ante" if money issues are not addressed next week – Eye Witness News

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Three unions have called on the government to pay monies owed to their members or risk widespread industrial action.
Members of the Bahamas Communications and Public Officers Union (BCPOU), Bahamas Utility Services and Allied Workers Union (BUSAWU) and Water and Sewerage Management Union (WSMU) gathered at the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas (BCB) yesterday to make their voices heard.
BUSAWU President Dwayne Woods said the action is just a prelude to stage two of its action against the government.
“We are calling on the powers that be to step up to the plate and solve these matters in a conciliatory manner before we have to up the ante,” Woods said.

Broadcasting Corporation Executive Chairman says focus is to keep staff employed

AMID the threat of industrial action over money owed, Executive Chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas Fred Gottlieb told the press that his only focus is to protect the jobs of staff.
On Friday, the Bahamas Communication and Public Offices Union held a press conference on the grounds of BCB about money owed to workers. A few days earlier, BCB staff walked off the job causing a news show not to air at its regular time. It is claimed that a lump sum, increment and sick incentive payments were long past due and the staff simply ran out of patience.

Broadcasting corporation staff walk out over money

STAFF at the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas briefly walked off the job yesterday in what was said to be a protest over money owed to them.
The action was also meant to show solidarity to a colleague who was suspended after being “provoked” by his supervisor, The Tribune was told.
The employees’ action affected ZNS’ Morning Edition telecast with viewers who tuned in not seeing the programme as expected.
Two managers, who would not normally be in at the time of the walkout, could be seen on the BCB’s premises looking on as the staff were outside the building.
