Southeastern Grocers Introduces Supplier Diversity Program

Managing Editor Southeastern Grocers will hold virtual sourcing conference this spring to improve partnerships with existing minority suppliers and connect with other diverse businesses to expand offerings in its stores, including Harveys. Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG) is bolstering its commitment to include a broader range of diverse suppliers with a new program. Winn-Dixie Grocery Store Honors Beloved 101-Year-Old Employee With Grant In Her Name Romay Davis has continued working at the store even through the COVID-19 pandemic. February 26, 2021 at 4:17 pm Grocery store chain Winn-Dixie has created a social justice grant in honor of Romay Davis, a beloved 101-year-old employee, according to Good Morning America.  Davis retired in 1982 but decided that she wanted to go back to work after her husband died in 2001. She got a job at the Winn-Dixie in Montgomery, Alabama, that year and she has continued to work through the COVID-19 pandemic.  The store decided to honor her decades of work with the creation of the Romay Davis Belonging, Inclusion and Diversity Grant Program, which will provide funding to racial equity and social justice nonprofits seeking to address racial disparities in education, food insecurity and healthcare.

Managing Editor For Black History Month, Southeastern Grocers is not only supporting nonprofits that aid minorities, but also honoring the achievements of 101-year-old Winn-Dixie associate Romay Davis. In honor of Black History Month in February, Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG) and its charitable arm, the SEG Gives Foundation, have rolled out a community donation program benefiting the Romay Davis Belonging, Inclusion and Diversity Grant Program. The grant program aids nonprofit organizations working toward racial equity and social justice, and addresses racial disparities in education, food insecurity and health care. Through March 2, customers at all of the grocer’s Bi-Lo, Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie stores can make donations to the program. Throughout the year, SEG has supported communities, neighbors and front-line workers in need. Despite an especially challenging year, Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG), together with the SEG Gives Foundation, has given more than $8.25 million back to local communities throughout 2020 to support its neighbors in need. The parent company of Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket, and Winn-Dixie grocery stores has partnered with more than 4,700 local organizations in the Southeast, hosting more than 30 mobile food pantries and providing more than 10 million meals to help fight hunger. “As we all reflect on this year, many may be reminded of the challenges and obstacles faced throughout the world, but we believe it is important to remember that this year has given us so many new reasons to celebrate our neighbors and those who share our communities,” said Anthony Hucker, president and CEO of SEG.
