Second Dose of AstraZeneca Vaccine Being Given to Phase One
COVID-19 vaccinations are now entering the second round for the people who were part of phase one, meaning frontline healthcare workers, persons sixty and older and those with special conditions. This is approximately two and a half months after they received their dose of the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. Duane Moody was out at vaccination centres in Belize City today and has this report.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero’s Recovery Almost Complete
Doctor Marvin Manzanero was the face of the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but tonight the good doctor is still on the road to recovery. Doctor Manzanero says that he considers his mental and emotional recovery almost complete. He says that as someone who doesn’t really get sick, this has been a rather difficult recovery process. Physically, Doctor Manzanero says it has taken longer than expected. His sick leave applications expired on Friday, but he has applied for a couple of weeks more to complete some examinations, after which he says “return to my duties.” But what duties exactly? Doctor Melissa Diaz is acting Director of Health Services, and the government has suggested that she is the person best to lead the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this week, we reported that Director of Health Services Doctor Marvin Manzanero had tested positive for COVID-19 and has since been self-isolating. One day later, the Minister of Health and Wellness, announced that in his absence, Doctor Melissa Diaz, the Deputy Regional Manager for the Central Health Region, has been appointed as Acting Director of Health Services. Now, Doctor Diaz has worked with the ministry for twelve years and has been active in the fight on the ground against the coronavirus pandemic. But there are two deputy Directors of Health Services that were overlooked to appoint Diaz. So is her appointment a form of nepotism since she is the sister-in-law of Minister Kareem Musa?
