Theatre's obsession with 'inclusivity' has hit an embarrassing new low
The Noël Coward Theatre in the West End is set to be the latest to hold a “Black Out” night – with an all-black audience. Instead of turning white people away at the door, the theatre aims to target black community groups with invitations, in order to create an environment “free from the white gaze”. “Black Out” performances have already been trialled – both in the US and recently during the production of Tambo & Bones at Theatre Royal Stratford East last year.
