Mayor in PNG arrested with gun and cash near election recount
Papua New Guinea police Photo: RNZ / Johnny Blades Kennedy Kiak's arrest took place in the Chimbu capital Kundiawa where a recount of votes for the 2017 election in Enga's Kandep district is underway. EMTV reported that Kiak had been charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm, resisting arrest and assaulting police. Police say that when apprehended he was in posession of $US22,000.
