Tap water is yellow despite a €10m upgrade of plant

Concerned residents in South Sligo have been assured their water is safe to drink despite discolouration in recent weeks.
Consumers in some areas on the Lough Talt Water Scheme have noticed a change in the colour of their water since the new €10million treatment became operational.
Many have reported a yellow or brown tinge to their supply.
However, in response to queries from Cllr Martin Connolly, who was contacted by residents in the area, Irish Water say they are aware of the issue and there is no danger to the safety of the drinking water.
In a response issued to Cllr Connolly, a spokesperson said: “While the new plant is performing well we are aware that some consumers have observed occasional low colour events.”
