The city s population is estimated to expand by 50,000 to 80,000 by 2050.
Analysis of the results found intensification was the most commonly discussed topic, but respondents were torn.
Nearly 60 percent agreed with plans to intensify the CBD, but when it came to intensification of inner and outer suburbs, just 45 and 44 percent were in favour respectively. ....

She says the future is converting increasingly empty commercial buildings into apartments to rent and own, and “a walkable, liveable neighbourhood where you can get most of the stuff you need to have a decent life within 15 minutes of active travel . and public transport”.

Isabella Cawthorn, from Talk Wellington, says more people living in the city centre will mean even more life and vibrancy in the capital.
Developers are leading the way in filling that space, and the Wellington City Council has become a fast follower on the back of the Government’s National Policy Statement on Urban Development promoting city intensification and the council’s Planning for Growth and Draft Spatial Plan strategies, which aim to find room for between 50,000 ....

I think that the council should review their projects. I would argue that the water pipes are more important than a cycleway. Why are we not holding the building contractors accountable for overspends or delays? If this was a house renovation, you would be calling the project manager or the builder and asking what’s going on. ....

Wellington.scoop.co.nz » A year to remember, or forget

by Benoit Pette
2020. A year to remember, or forget? At an individual level, and as a city, how have we fared through this unprecedented period? Have we learned from it and have we taken actions to correct our course?
Are we more confident than we were a year ago, that Wellington is the city of our aspirations, led by an inspiring City Council with our interests at heart? Has the Council led by example and made this city better to live in? Are we happier than a year ago to live here in Wellington?
Sadly, and in all honesty, it would be difficult to answer these questions with a straight, warmhearted yes. From the unexpected to the policies on the agenda, the Council has demonstrated a lack of cohesion and laid bare dissensions between councillors and with the people who voted them in. Let’s have a quick retrospective. ....
